Everything New in Insider Focus This October
This month in Insider Focus: expanded 10b5-1 plan tracking, ADV adviser search, donor-advised fund signals, your own tags and notes, and the full math behind insider sales.
Expanded
Follow 10b5-1 trading plans
In August, we added 10b5-1 plans to Insider Focus as a timing signal. This month, we made them much more useful. A Rule 10b5-1 plan lets an insider sell stock on a preset schedule, and knowing who has one, when it starts and ends, and how much it covers can help you understand an insider’s liquidity and time your outreach. Here are three ways to put that to work.
See every insider’s trading plans
Each insider profile now lists their 10b5-1 trading plans, drawn from company 10-Q and 10-K disclosures. Go to the profile, then Signals, then 10B5-1.
- When each plan was adopted and when it ends
- How many shares it covers, and the insider’s role
- A link to the filing that disclosed it
Search for people with a 10b5-1 plan
The new Has 10b5-1 Plan filter sits under Wealth Signals in the search panel.
- Combine it with any other filter, like state, industry, company, title or holdings. No university needed.
- An hourglass icon on a result marks their 10b5-1 sales.
- On the profile, the Shares Sold and Net Sales tabs can show plan sales only.
Try it: open Search, check Has 10b5-1 Plan under Wealth Signals, and add a state or industry.
Break down Net Sales by company and plan
The Net Sales tab on a person’s profile now lets you slice the numbers.
- One company at a time: pick a company and Total Sales, Total Exercised and Net Value recalculate for it.
- 10b5-1 plan sales only: count just the sales made under a plan.
- Choose the transactions: the filter on each table picks which transaction types count.
- Excel export follows your filters and lists them at the top of the sheet.
Try it: open any person’s profile and go to the Net Sales tab.
New
Search investment advisers, with full ADV profiles
A new ADV Advisors results tab sits next to SEC and private insiders. It covers registered investment advisers from SEC Form ADV, with the same Education, Name and location search you already use.
- Find advisors by school, name or city, ranked by firm AUM, with their title and current firm.
- Narrow to owners only, firms with $1B+ AUM, or firms that charge a performance fee.
- Each profile shows firm AUM, headcount, client accounts, fee terms from the brochure, and who owns the firm.
New
Tag people with your own IDs and notes
Every person in your results now has a Tag button, so you can link them to your own records.
- Client ID: add your CRM or donor-database ID to a person, and it shows on the result row.
- Private note and color: add context and color-code prospects. Your whole team sees the same tags.
- Tag in bulk: upload a watchlist file with an internal_id column and every matched person is tagged.
Try it: run any search and click Tag under a person’s name.
New
Find insiders who give through donor-advised funds
Insider Focus now flags insiders linked to a donor-advised fund (DAF) in DAFinitive®. A DAF is one of the clearest signals that someone is already set up to give, so this filter helps you focus on prospects with both the capacity and the habit of philanthropy.
You’ll find Has DAF under Wealth Signals in the search panel.
- Filter for it: check Has DAF to keep only insiders with a donor-advised fund.
- Spot it at a glance: a green DAF badge marks these insiders in your results and on their profiles.
- Combine it: pair Has DAF with education, location or any other filter. For example, Stanford alumni with a DAF.
Try it: open Search, check Has DAF, and run your usual prospect search.
Has DAF sits under Wealth Signals in the search panel.
Improved
Latest Sales shows the full day, with the math
Latest Sales on your Dashboard now shows each insider’s full day of selling, not just their last trade. Insiders often sell in several pieces at different prices, so the last trade alone can understate what really happened.
- One total per person: every sale an insider made that day at the same company rolls up into one row, with the number of transactions underneath.
- See how it adds up: click “N transactions” to open the breakdown, with shares × price for each sale and the day’s total to the cent.
- Same for purchases: Recent Purchases works the same way.
Try it: open your Dashboard and click “transactions” under any Latest Sales value.
Each sale broken out as shares × price, totaled for the day.
Smaller improvements
- City and State search for Private Insiders and ADV Advisors
- Exact university matching across search, pre-IPO and ADV
- Smarter alerts: the same search with a different alert type now saves as its own alert, and emailed alert links keep your holdings filter
- Icons cheat sheet: a new Insider Focus Icons PDF in the Help panel (the ? in the sidebar) explains every result icon
- Faster loading across search, profiles, Path Explorer, agreements, news, ADV and pre-IPO
